Applicants must also hold academic and professional qualifications relevant to their teaching areas, be well-versed with the curriculum designs of those subjects, and have a minimum teaching experience of three years.

Teachers currently involved in the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and those in teacher training colleges have been invited to apply for a new training programme being rolled out by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC).

The training focuses on developing assessment tools that align with CBC standards across learning levels.

In a public notice shared through My Gov., on Tuesday, KNEC Chief Executive Officer David Njengere said the initiative is meant to support the proper assessment of learner competencies and uphold quality across examinations.

“The Council wishes to invite qualified teachers and teacher educators to apply for training in the development of quality test items for effective implementation of Competency Based Assessment in Basic Education and teacher training levels,” Njengere said.

According to KNEC, individuals who complete the training may be engaged later as contracted professionals whenever necessary.

Njengere said applicants should meet several requirements, including a strong moral standing and deep expertise in the subject or learning area they wish to be trained in.

Those eligible include teachers of Grades 4 to 6 in primary school, Grades 7 and 8 in junior school, and those currently teaching in secondary schools who are expected to handle Grade 10 learners from 2026.

Trainers from DTE-PP&P and DSTE colleges, as well as those in the Stage-Based Pathway (Foundation, Intermediate, or Prevocational levels), are also encouraged to apply.

Applicants must also hold academic and professional qualifications relevant to their teaching areas, be well-versed in the curriculum designs of those subjects, and have a minimum teaching experience of three years.

Njengere added that all candidates must be registered with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and be officially recommended by the head of their institution.

He further stated, “teachers and teacher educators already trained by KNEC should not apply.”

All applications must be submitted online by Friday, April 11, 2025, through the link: http://examinersapp.knec.ac.ke. Additional information on the application process is available on the KNEC website, www.knec.ac.ke.
